Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun parçası Pink Floyd’un A Saurceful Of Secrets (1968) albümünde yer alıyor.
Roger Waters’a göre, bu erken Pink Floyd şarkısı, bestelerinden gurur duyduğu ilk şarkıydı. Başlık satırı dışında, tüm sözler Roger Waters’ın sahip olduğu bir Çin şiir kitabından alınmıştır. Başlık, Nicholas Schaffner’ın A Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey adlı kitabında William S. Burroughs’tan alınmış olarak yanlış bir şekilde tanıtıldı, ancak Burroughs hiçbir kitapta böyle bir satır yazmadı. Aslında Michael Moorcock’un “Arafta Rüzgarlar” olarak da bilinen Fireclown adlı kitabından alınmıştır.
Bu şarkı, İngiliz yazar Douglas Adams’a, “Tüm zamanların en gürültülü grubunun” bir uzay gemisini yok ederek bir yıldıza çevirdiği The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy adlı kitabında gruba gönderme yapması için ilham verdi. David Gilmour’un Aralık 1967’de gruba katılması ile Syd Barrett’ın Nisan 1968’de gruptan ayrılması arasında kısa bir süre için Pink Floyd beş kişiydi. David Gilmour ile 2006 belgeseli Which One’s Pink?’te yapılan bir röportaja göre, bu şarkı hem Gilmour hem de Barrett’ın gitar çalışmalarını içerdiğinden beş grup üyesinin de yer aldığı tek Pink Floyd şarkısı.
Haziran 2002’de Wembley Arena’da verdiği iki solo konserde Roger Waters, bunu Pink Floyd davulcusu Nick Mason ile seslendirdi. Yirmi yılı aşkın bir süredir ilk kez birlikte halka açık performans sergiliyorlardı ve bu süre boyunca hayatlarının çoğunda en iyi arkadaşlar olmalarına rağmen on yılı hiç konuşmadan geçirmeyi başarmışlardı.
